The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities received nine awards during the fifth annual Henry Awards, Colorado's version of the Tony Award.
The Arvada Center's productions of "Miss Saigon" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" were recognized during the July 19 ceremony at the Space Theater in Denver. The awards are sponsored by the Colorado Theatre Guild.
The Arvada Center has a history of sweeping the awards, said Arvada Center spokeswoman Janet Braccio.
"For the second year in a row, the Arvada Center won more Henry Awards than any other
theater company," she said. Last year, the center's production of "Les Miserables" won a record 12 Henry Awards, including best musical.
Rod Lansberry, artistic director for the Arvada Center, said he was happy to know the two productions caught critics' attention. "These two productions were certainly a challenge, and it was a really nice confirmation that what we did on these shows was recognized," he said. "I always hope the focus is on the strong characters and story." Read More...
