Community garden grand opening

On Saturday, May 12, Rose Roots, Arvada’s newest community garden along with Star Acre Farms; a local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) will celebrate their grand opening.  The event begins at 10:00 am at the Hills at Standley Lake Park, 84th and Alkire, with a grand opening presentation by members of the Arvada City Council, Sustain Arvada, and the Arvada Parks Advisory Committee. A plant sale by Star Acre Farms will follow, along with free educational talks by local gardeners, storytelling for children and a ladybug release.  Tours of the garden and farm will take place at 10:30 am and at 1:30 pm and Star Acre Farms will present a draft horse demonstration. Food will be available for purchase from HarvestDenver and AikoPops food trucks.

Colorado Ballet announces 2012-2013 Season

Colorado Ballet Artistic Director Gil Boggs announced the 2012-2013 season, which will feature technically-challenging classical ballet with innovative contemporary premieres.  Marking the Company’s 52nd season, the four-production lineup will stay true to Boggs’ artistic vision of presenting superior quality classical ballet and innovative dance.

The Denver Public Library (DPL) is pleased to announce the launch of Creating Your Community (CYC) a new interactive website that allows people to share their stories, upload images and create their own community all while preserving Colorado history.

The Arc of Colorado Celebrates Developmental Disability Awareness Month with Film Festival

 

In celebration of Developmental Disability Awareness Month, The Arc of Colorado and its 11 local chapters will host a film festival featuring short films starring or produced by people with developmental disabilities. The festival will be held at the Denver Film Center on Colfax on Tuesday, March 20.

Artists Sought for Waterfowl Competition

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is soliciting original artwork entries for the 2012 Colorado Waterfowl Stamp Art Contest. This year's species of focus is the Ross's goose, a small white goose that is often confused with the snow goose. The deadline for artists to submit entries is 4 p.m., Friday, March 2.

Arvada Center features Artists with Colorado Connections in January Exhibitions

Long a source of creative inspiration and awakening, the beauty of Colorado has been uniquely expressed in genres, styles and media by generations of artists. The Arvada Center winter series presents three exhibitions by four of Colorado's most celebrated abstract artists, including the first career retrospective from the "Dean of Colorado Contemporary Sculpture" Robert Mangold. The Center's winter series also features exhibitions by found-object master Carl Reed and contemporary abstract painters Homare Ikeda and Monroe Hodder in a unique gallery pairing.
